Unexpected rain storms & winds are always a big headache. We often worry more about the internet going out than a tree hitting our home. Anytime storms of unusual intensity are on the weather map, we are at risk for hail damage or tree damage. This homeowner called us to perform a roof inspection. During the inspection, we saw the chimney shroud was damaged. This homeowner was lucky enough not to have roof damage. They filed a claim with their homeowner's insurance & quickly realized that the repairs to the chimney would be a lot less than their deductible. When dealing with a chimney shroud it is a special order product since it's a custom order. This means it typically takes a few weeks to get made. Housworth removed the damaged chimney shroud & placed a tarp on top & instructed the homeowner not to use the chimney until the new shroud was installed. 

All types of critters can damage your home & they are way smarter than you think. We have received many calls over the years about critters doing so much damage. Besides the typical critters chewing the plumbing boots, they can also chew threw fascia, unscrew gutter covers, dig out mortar & put holes in your chimneys. It's almost impossible to stop these critters, but you can do a few things to help deter them from destroying your home. To stop critters from putting holes in your chimney we suggest installing an owl on the top of your chimney. Critters don't like seeing another animal & will usually pause from creating damage. Another helpful tip is to install drip edges along your roof edges. This stops the gap that they can sometimes slip through. To avoid costly roof repairs we always suggest asking for lead pipe plumbing boots. Critters will avoid chewing on lead versus the standard plastic plumbing boots. 

We often see a little round dot on the sheetrock ceiling & typically don't worry about it. Most of the time homeowners are too busy with work & kids that if the sheetrock isn't falling in on our heads then let it go. While it looks like a small problem from the outside, most of the time its already done major damage that we can't see on the outside. In the picture below you can see horrible plywood damage done on the back patio room. One little leak that was no bigger than 2 inches was way worse on the outside. The damage didn't just happen to the plywood, but it also dripped and rotted out the fascia board behind the gutters as well as the soffit wood. Anytime you see sheetrock damage no matter how small it is, you should always address it so you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on repairs. If the small leak was addressed when it was first noticed the approximate would have been somewhere between $250 to $450 for a roofing professional.
